Termite mounds are not only conspicuous features of African landscapes! Odontotermes obesus does what Macrotermes spp. do in Africa. It build mounds impacting the dynamics of soil and water in Indian ecosystems. ‘Tell me where you live and I’ll tell you what you do’ could be the watchwords of O. obesus whose mound shape and soil properties reflect the properties the soil where they live (e.g., availability of clays, mineralogy). 

“Same same but different”. The same species in a Luvisol and in a Vertisol. The low stability of verisol aggregates do not allow termites to build large cathedral mounds as observed in the Luvisol.
